Boz (Not Boz)

Oooh, the face.

How many times have you said, "I wish I could have a dog like Boz, but there's only one Boz in the whole, wide world!"? I know! You're like a broken record! How many times have you wished you, too, could have a mild-mannered, easy-to-handle, calm-as-can-be Boxer like Boz?

Well, now you can! Yes, you, too, can meet Vinnie the Boxer at Boxer Rescue! He's available for adoption today!

Here's what Karin the Altadenahiker had to say when she walked Vinnie: "He was happy to mosey on the leash, but every so often would break into a sweet but tame happy dance. He wouldn’t lunge at other dogs who said rude things behind fences, but he wasn’t afraid of them, either. Was curious about everything, but not insistent about it."

Wow. "...all a boxer has to offer without the exuberance," as Karin says. Sounds like Boz to me. And Vinnie comes with a bonus even Boz can't match: he's an actual Boxer (Boz is actually a Mixer).
Here's another shot Karin took of our guy:**
I love that far-away look in his eyes, don't you? Soulful. So Clark Gable.

Vinnie (you can name him Boz once you take him home) is 7 or 8 years old. I highly recommend a mature dog, especially if you yourself are not a spring chicken. Puppies are great if you have furniture to spare and if you are free 24/7 to train your young piddler and walk him/her several times a day so he/she will please god sleep for chrissakes. But Karin and I picture Vinnie with someone who appreciates the finer things in life--at a slower pace.

"In all the [dog] walks I’ve taken," says Karin, "I've never met a dog so well behaved and affectionate." And Ms. Hiker has walked more than her fair share of dogs as a volunteer at Boxer Rescue.

To learn more about Vinnie, read Karin's piece on Altadena Patch. Then call or visit Boxer Rescue and take Vinnie home with you. Then you, too, can have your very own Boz!**

I guarantee it--you'll be so glad you did.

I have indeed said that to myself about Boz, Petrea, and who'd have thought the Universe would kindly provide another one almost just like him. If I lived there and didn't have Ella, I'd snaffle Vinnie before anyone else woke up to read your post. What a honey. May he find his forever home in a flash.

I love Boz's white chest.. u forgot to mention that!. :-) Boz may be mild mannered, though I think a lot of that calmness has to do w/its owners... Seriously. A friend of mine had a Jack Russell named Roscoe and she talked and treated Roscoe like a person... and he minded her...

How wonderful for you to feature Vinnie and help to get him adopted! You are my hero today!

Hmm, Shell, I wonder how Vinnie would be with a kitty. Boz is good-- a little scared and very, very excited to meet a cat (cats are alpha in his world).

See? See how similar they are? That's Vinnie's white chest, Kalei!

Cathy, thank you. Karin's an even bigger hero because she got me involved, wrote about Vinnie on her own blog and posted an article about him on Patch. Wow. I hope we get him adopted today. Karin says he's a lot like Boz and if so, he is a rare prize.

How did Vinnie come to end up at Boxer Rescue? and it's always good to know that an animal is good with cats.

I do hope he finds a home soon.

I don't know how he got there, PA. Karin might know. I'm sure she'll be checking in here today. Let's ask her about the cats, too.

You don't always know how they got to a rescue shelter. In Boz's case, we knew someone had found him on the street but we didn't know how long he'd been out there. We've been able to piece together a few things just by living with him, but we'll never know the whole story.

Aww, could he get a plane ticket to Indy then ride home on a bus with me? And Vinnie seems to be the right name for him, too.

Ohhhhhh...how I wish I could have my own Boz (sadly living in an Absolutely No Pets Allowed condo). Thank you for sharing the ones you know!

Yay Vinnie, yah Petrea. Loved this.

Petrea Burchard said...

Got to get us a doggy plane ticket, Speedway. I wonder...

I have lived that way, LGreenWriter, and I know. Some day you will move on and have yourself a pet.

Karin, did you learn any Vinnie history when you met him?

Sweet dog, and I'm glad his ears haven't been cut so they stick up. If one of us adopts him, Auntie Karin will be coming round for visits and walkies, I'm sure.

Abby wants me to add that she's sorry we're full up here.

See!, that's what I get for getting up early!. my bad, lol

It's terrible how people crop dog's ears and tails, as if they were cosmetic and not part of a dog's communication needs.

As far as Karin coming around, that should be a draw!

Kalei, nothing bad about you.

Vinnie may have had some tough times but his luck has changed now that he has you and Karin as his PR agents. I love that last picture of him. If I weren't in the habit of taking in young pitties off the street, I'd take Vinnie in a heartbeat. And I'm all for adopting "elder" dogs. They're so much more refined. I hope Vinnie finds a fabulous forever home.

Petrea Burchard said...

I hope you're right about Vinnie's luck changing, Susan. Karin and I were both disappointed at how few comments there've been on her Patch article. Usually she gets a lot, but people don't seem to want to talk about this one.

Not everyone can take a dog into their home, and most of us certainly can't take two, like some people I know!

I just left a comment on Patch. And I just realized that last picture is Boz. I should've known: he looks so happy, while Vinnie looks rather sad. Poor Vinnie. He deserves to roll in the grass smiling, just like Boz.

I just wanted folks to have a view of the "look of love" a pooch can get.

Aw, Vinnie is adorable! If I didn't live in a teeny no-dogs apartment and travel so much I might be tempted. I hope he quickly finds a great home!

Ms M said...

Kudos to you and Karin for getting the word out! I so hope Vinnie finds a good home.

Petrea Burchard said...

I hope so, too. Publicity can help!

What a sweetheart. I hope he finds a home soon.

Hello, Any--you have made my day, my week, my month! I hope you and Vinnie are a love match. Please let me know how it works out. I'll be very excited to hear.

Amy said...

Hi Petrea--my previous message posted as "Any" for some reason. It's Amy from the old hollisthecat blog.

Anyway...I will keep you posted! :O)

Petrea Burchard said...

It's you!
You are a good, loving pet guardian, Amy, and any animal would be lucky to live with you. I'm sorry Hollis is gone. Perhaps that extra love can go to Vinnie for a while. Can't wait to hear.

Ahhhhhh!! Sweet, sweet Vinnie!!! Glad the story may have a very happy ending!!!

Petrea Burchard said...

Fingers crossed, Chieftess. I'll let you all know if I hear good news.

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks for that, Patrizzi. Much appreciated.

I am sorry to report that I will not be adopting Vinnie. My work schedule and yard/fence/lack of doggie door situation is not compatible with his needs. :(

So if anyone else out there is interested...please go get hi

Petrea Burchard said...

I'm so sorry to hear it, Amy. I hope you soon find the pet of your dreams and that Vinnie finds his home.
